Real Madrid are yet to officially announce a transfer this summer, and it was the presidential election that caused all the delay.

With the formality now out of the way, Florentino Perez will look to get going and complete the transfers of important targets.

Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries are already said to have closed their agreements with Real Madrid – and those developments make it clear that Jose Mourinho is keen on strengthening the back-line.

As reported by MARCA, however, he is not satisfied with the two signings and is demanding more.

Two more targets

Indeed, Mourinho sees the defence as Real Madrid’s biggest problem and has identified particular profiles that can fit into his project at the club.

On that front, he is demanding two more defensive signings of Florentino Perez – one central defender and one left-back.

The soon-to-be Real Madrid manager has told the administration that he needs one more ‘elite’ centre back after Konate’s arrival, pointing to the fact that he does not have much expectation of the currently in-house solutions.

Further, he has asked for a left-back who can compete for a spot on the starting XI, again making it clear that Alvaro Carreras, Ferland Mendy, and Fran Garcia may not be preferred options in his dynamics.

Early targets identified

What the update makes clear is that Real Madrid will have a long summer transfer window, especially with two more ‘high-profile’ defensive recruitments required in addition to the other targets across the field.

Calafiori is emerging as an option. (Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)

At centre-back, the manager is said to have his eyes on two Premier League stars – Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol and Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori. Both deals, needless to say, will be complicated to get over the line.

At left-back, meanwhile, it remains unclear as to which profile the manager will push for. What is clear, however, is that there will have to be some departures in the department given that it is unsustainable to keep four players competing for one spot.
