Jordyn Tyson injury update: Saints rookie WR likely won’t play before Week 8 bye

· · 2 min read

The New Orleans Saints have plenty of reasons to be excited about their offense, but Tyler Shough will have to wait to get exciting rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson back in the mix.

The NFC South team features a highly-potent passing attack through New Orleans’ first three NFL games. However, Shough hasn’t even had full use of his top receivers yet with Chris Olave missing his rookie sidekick.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reveals that Tyson is “considered to be weeks away” from returning to the field. The Saints rookie hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game after sustaining a hamstring injury in August.

New Orleans invested a top-10 pick in Tyson during the 2026 NFL Draft. That’s why the franchise remains very cautious with how quickly they try to get the former Arizona State wideout back onto the field.

How will Jordyn Tyson affect Saints’ offense?

Tyson’s availability is still a bit fuzzy in terms of a timeline. The 22-year-old likely wouldn’t come back until Week 7 at the earliest, but that’s when the Saints travel to Paris to face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Meanwhile, New Orleans has a Week 8 bye, which makes the following week a more logical return date. Tyson could potentially debut at home against the Cleveland Browns in Week 9.

Many NFL Draft gurus projected Tyson as the best WR option in the 2026 class. Ultimately, the Saints selected the college football standout eighth overall as the second receiver off the board after Carnell Tate went to the Tennessee Titans.

The good news for New Orleans is that Olave remains one of the best receiving options in the league after his hot start. Shough’s connection with the former Ohio State WR may be one of the strongest in the NFL.

Olave’s racked up 375 yards and a touchdown in his first three games. Head coach Kellen Moore is likely thrilled at the prospect of adding Tyson to the offense after Olave’s tremendous production.
