Jonathan Greenard is listed on the Eagles’ initial 53-man roster

The Philadelphia Eagles received an encouraging development involving one of their most important offseason additions.

Outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard is on Philadelphia’s initial 53-man roster, according to Brooks Kubena of The Athletic. The decision means Greenard will not begin the regular season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list while recovering from a pectoral injury.

A reserve/PUP designation would have required Greenard to miss at least the first four games. His inclusion on the active roster preserves the possibility that he can return earlier, although it does not guarantee he will be available for Philadelphia’s season opener.

Greenard suffered the injury while lifting weights before training camp and spent the summer on the active/PUP list. He was unable to participate in the preseason while working through his rehabilitation program.

Philadelphia acquired Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings during the 2026 NFL draft and signed him to a long-term contract. The Eagles invested heavily in the veteran because they believe he can become the established pass rusher their defensive front was missing.

Greenard has recorded 38 sacks, 75 quarterback hits and eight forced fumbles over six NFL seasons. He earned Pro Bowl honors with Minnesota in 2024 before injuries contributed to a less productive 2025 season.

His eventual return would strengthen a rotation that includes Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, A.J. Epenesa and Arnold Ebiketie.

The Eagles will continue evaluating Greenard’s progress before determining when he can practice fully or play. Making the initial roster represents an important step and suggests Philadelphia believes his absence will not extend deep into the regular season.
