In its most important district game of the season, Johnson did more than just put up a win.

Johnson stifled Reagan 50-7 in the annual Stone Oak Super Bowl on Friday night at Heroes Stadium. In front of a packed Johnson crowd, the Jaguars led the entire game and earned full control of District 28-6A as the last undefeated team.

“It feels good, but that’s just our expectation,” Johnson sophomore wide receiver Braelyn Allen said. “Beating Reagan is just our first step to what we really want to accomplish, which is going to state.”

Johnson senior quarterback Elvis Estrada said the Jaguars needed to put up a big win Friday.

“We’ve got bigger aspirations than this game,” he said. “But the places we want to be, we’ve got to put up scores like this.”

The Jaguars jumped to an early lead, and the Rattlers never recovered. Johnson junior running back Jeremiah Johnson scored on a 44-yard rushing touchdown with 9:58 left in the first quarter. Reagan lost the ball on the ensuing kickoff, and Johnson recovered it to set up its offense on Reagan’s 15-yard line. Allen scampered into the end zone for a one-play scoring drive.

As expected, the four-star recruit was a crucial part in Johnson’s rivalry win. Allen hauled in seven receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed twice for 24 yards and two touchdowns.

“I’m taking him all day,” Estrada said of Allen.

The quarterback threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-25 passing with three rushes for 31 yards.

Both offenses hit a lull early in the second quarter, but Johnson extended its lead in the final minutes of the period. Estrada hurled a 55-yard pass to senior wide receiver Logan Staggs to place the Jaguars firmly in Reagan territory. Allen rushed into the end zone on the next play for a 9-yard touchdown with 2:38 left until halftime. Estrada then found Allen for his first passing touchdown of the night 38 seconds before halftime on a 23-yard play.

“It was a really big group win,” Estrada said. “We’ve definitely matured and leveled up from this game.”

Reagan did not get on the board until well into the second half. Senior quarterback Jace Huesser found senior wide receiver Brody Beck on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 5:39 left in the third quarter for what would be the Rattlers’ only touchdown of the night.

“It feels good, but we for sure work for it,” Allen said of Friday’s win. “It’s an expectation for Johnson High School to be on top, so it’s just really doing what we’re meant to do.”

While Johnson never trailed in a game it won by 43 points, the Jaguars lost 75 yards to nine penalties.

“I feel like it backed us up a lot,” Allen said. “But we fought through the adversity, and we came out on top.”

Johnson takes on Churchill next Thursday at Comalander Stadium as District 28-6A play continues. Reagan plays Roosevelt next Friday, also at Comalander.
