Joey Porter Jr.: I feel like I showed why Cowboys brought me here

· · 1 min read

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. wasn’t on the field a lot during Sunday’s game against the Texans, but his Cowboys debut was a happy one.

The Cowboys won the game on CeeDee Lamb’s late touchdown catch and Porter said it was “a blessing” just to be on the field after sitting out the first three games while he was still with the Steelers. Porter played 24 snaps and was in pass coverage on 19 of those plays. He was only targeted once by Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, which illustrated one of the reasons why the Cowboys were interested in adding him to their defense.

“I’m a dog at the end of the day, and I want to be out there with the guys,” Porter said, via the team’s website. So I have to prove why they got me here, and I feel like I did that today.”

Porter was only with the Cowboys for a matter of days before Sunday’s game and he said his unfamiliarity with the entire defense was the reason he “wasn’t really out there too much” in his debut. Porter won’t have much time to nail down the missing pieces before Thursday’s game against the Buccaneers, but every little bit will help him continue to find his place in Dallas.
