Joao Pedro crowned as August’s Premier League Player of the Month

Chelsea marksman Joao Pedro has won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for August.

With the Blues clearly relishing the early days of Xabi Alonso’s tenure in west London, the Brazilian international has enjoyed a stellar start to proceedings.

While the one-time Watford starlet might have been left heartbroken over the summer after being omitted from Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad, Pedro certainly hasn’t shown any signs of a hangover.

Handed Chelsea‘s famous number nine shirt, the 24-year-old put pen to paper on a bumper new deal at Stamford Bridge last month and his expanded contract will now run until 2034.

Quickly becoming a key figure in west London after completing a reported £60million move from Brighton last summer, Pedro has registered four direct goal contributions in his opening three Premier League appearances (two goals, two assists).

In his maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge last season, Pedro notched 15 Premier League strikes and only the quartet of Erling Haaland, Igor Thiago, Antoine Semenyo and Ollie Watkins boasted a better return.

Forming what looks set to be a blockbuster partnership alongside England international Cole Palmer and record-breaking summer recruit Morgan Rogers, the eight-cap international finds his stock at a major high.

Immediately hitting the ground since arriving in the English capital last year, Pedro’s domestic performances haven’t gone unnoticed by Ancelotti.

Despite his public World Cup frustration over the summer, Pedro has been reinstalled by the former Real Madrid boss and has been included for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies against Australia and India.
