Joao Cancelo emerges as Alejandro Balde’s biggest supporter at Barcelona
Joao Cancelo has emerged as one of Alejandro Balde’s strongest supporters within the Barcelona dressing room, offering encouragement and advice as the defender struggles to establish himself under Hansi Flick.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese full-back has even defended his teammate in conversations with the German manager, while showing concern among senior players over Balde’s situation.
The development comes amid uncertainty surrounding Balde’s Barcelona future.
As previously reported, the academy graduate is increasingly open to leaving in January after struggling to secure regular playing time.
In fact, despite Barcelona’s defensive injury problems, he has managed just 116 minutes across four appearances, raising questions about his standing in Flick’s plans.

Cancelo’s support is, in fact, an interesting development given Balde’s initial reaction to his arrival at Barcelona.
As per the outlet, the Spaniard struggled to understand the decision to sign another left-back, particularly as he was expected to be Flick’s first choice.
As it turns out, however, their relationship has evolved, with the experienced Portuguese defender now regularly encouraging Balde, offering advice and reassuring him during a difficult period.
It has even been suggested that Cancelo has also spoken to Flick in his teammate’s defence on at least one occasion.
Another Barcelona senior player questions Flick
As per the outlet, Cancelo is not the only senior figure concerned about how Flick has handled Balde, as another influential Barcelona player, who enjoys direct communication with the manager, also questioned one of his training decisions.

The incident involved Flick changing Balde’s position during a training match.
The teammate reportedly challenged the decision, questioning how the defender could demonstrate his abilities when he was not being trained in his natural position.
What happens now?
Notably, the situation adds to Balde’s increasingly difficult relationship with his role at Barcelona.
Having spent most of his development at the club since joining the academy, he is now facing uncertainty over his long-term prospects.
Now, with January approaching, the support of senior dressing-room figures could prove important, although unless his opportunities improve, Balde may still consider leaving to secure the regular football he wants.
