Jean-Luc Dompé to Konyaspor? Hamburg winger undergoing medical in Turkey

Hamburger SV winger Jean-Luc Dompé is undergoing a medical at Turkish Süper Lig side Konyaspor, according to t-online, with the move edging closer to completion after a photo emerged of him arriving in Turkey for talks, ending months of uncertainty over his future in Hamburg.

The report, credited to t-online alongside German wire services dpa and sid, says Dompé will join Konyaspor as a free agent on a two-year contract once the medical clears, ending a four-year spell in Hamburg in which he fell entirely out of the club’s plans. HSV’s coaching staff told the 30-year-old during preseason that he “no longer had sporting prospects” with the Bundesliga club and excluded him from the professional squad altogether, despite his contract technically running through summer 2027.

Dompé, a French winger, arrived at Hamburg with real expectation four years ago but leaves as a free transfer with the move offering HSV nothing beyond wage relief for the rest of the season. For Konyaspor, picking up a Bundesliga-experienced wide player without paying a fee is exactly the kind of low-cost, low-risk addition mid-table Süper Lig clubs look for late in the window, particularly one who arrives already up to speed with pre-season training elsewhere.

For HSV, the priority was clearing a player who had no route back into Merlin Polzin’s squad, freeing his salary rather than recouping any fee. For Konyaspor, adding proven top-flight experience for free, even from a player finding a fresh start after being frozen out elsewhere, is straightforward business at this stage of the window.

Status: Medical underway. Dompé has arrived in Turkey and a two-year deal is in place pending its completion, with no transfer fee involved since his HSV contract allowed a free exit.
