Jaxson Dart to undergo knee surgery, Giants keep door open for playoff return

· · 1 min read

Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed the worst following Wednesday’s practice, as QB Jaxson Dart will officially undergo knee surgery that’ll keep him sidelined for the rest of the regular season.

Dart will land on injured reserve, but Harbaugh wouldn’t rule out a potential playoff return if Big Blue were to make it, depending on how the young playmaker progressed over the course of his recovery.

“It’s a big loss, for sure,” the head coach said. “It’s your starting quarterback.”

Reports earlier this week indicated that Dart could potentially return after about two-to-four weeks, but an MRI later revealed that the injury was much more serious than initially believed.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dart suffered damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus.

The second-year quarterback missing the remainder of the regular season is a massive blow for a Giants team that entered the season with playoff hopes and had an inspiring win over the Cowboys in Week 1.

Following Dart’s injury, he was replaced under center by backup Jameis Winston, whose performance was uninspiring.

Winston looked extremely uncomfortable, as he missed open receivers on numerous instances, and threw an ugly interception in the red zone.

The 32-year-old, who recently signed a two-year extension, is expected to slide right in as the starter for the time-being but Harbaugh expects the Giants will be adding another veteran to the mix.

SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes broke down some potential options earlier today.
