Jason Whitlock shared a strong take about the success New York Giants QB Jameis Winston has had this season despite being considered washed by NFL fans.

Winston has stepped in for the Giants as their starting QB after Jaxson Dart’s season-ending knee injury after Week 2. While Winston had a rough start in that role, he is finding his footing with each passing game.

Winston had an effective performance in the Giants’ 27-27 OT tie against the Washington Commanders, throwing three TDs, with his resurgence leading to Jason Whitlock calling him the ‘best story in sports.’

Whitlock shared his thoughts on X about Winston, comparing the 32-year-old QB to Tim Tebow while referring to him as the best story in sports.

“We discussed today that Jameis Winston is Tim Tebow 2.0. He’s the best story in sports. Jameis is laying a blueprint for all athletes, particularly black athletes. I hope he continues to showcase victory over victimhood. “Tha culture” will soon demand that he promote victimhood.”

The comparison to Tebow is likely referencing high competitive fire while being deeply religious, as Tebow is often discussed more regarding his relationship with his faith than his actual QB production.

Winston has always been a more highly-touted prospect before and in the NFL than Tebow, but his reemergence after years as a backup despite being a former No. 1 overall pick makes the comparison more justified.

In four games this season, Winston has gone 76-of-132 on pass attempts for 805 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions, with an 81.2 passer rating. As a rusher, he has gained 42 yards on 9 carries.

The Giants acquired J.J. McCarthy to be a backup option behind Winston, but Jameis has proven his worth as a functional QB for John Harbaugh.

His numbers aren’t elite, but they are getting the job done as the Giants are 3-1-1 this season and looking poised to compete for a playoff spot despite losing their starting QB.
