JAMB clarifies ‘Not Admitted’, ‘Admission in Progress’ CAPS statuses

“Please note that ‘Admission in Progress’ does not mean automatic admission,” it said.

JAMB explained that an admission recommendation remained subject to the candidate meeting the relevant requirements and could still be rejected by the Board.

“This is because the recommended offer could still be disapproved by the Board if you don’t meet the prerequisite requirements,” JAMB stated.

The Board said the admission status changes to “Admitted” only after the proposed admission has received JAMB’s approval.

It explained that candidates would then receive the official confirmation stating, “CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION.”

At that stage, candidates can use CAPS to either accept or reject the admission offer.

JAMB further stressed that CAPS statuses are not necessarily permanent during the admission exercise, as they may change as institutions submit recommendations and the approval process advances.

“Remember, your CAPS status will keep changing as the admission process continues until the final stage where you print your admission letter,” the Board said.

The examination and admission body urged candidates to continue monitoring their CAPS accounts and rely on its official communication channels for accurate information rather than unverified reports about their admission status.
