Throughout his basketball career, Jalen Green has been known for being a scorer first. Given his impressive scoring skill set, that is not a surprise, but he seems to be diversifying his game recently.

For the Phoenix Suns, Devin Booker has operated as a de facto point guard over the past few seasons. However, it seems that in the 2026-27 season, he will be sharing those duties with Green.

Jalen Green is happy to be a ball-handler for the Suns

Green has averaged 3.3 assists per game during the first five seasons of his NBA career. It is a decent return for a score-first player, but it seems that he is looking to increase that number moving forward.

The duo of Booker and Green could have immense potential for the Suns because they understand how to play in a good offense. They may be score-first players, but they have now shown the willingness to make plays for others.

Green has even embraced the role of being a playmaker, which is a big deal for the Suns. If he can still maintain that superb scoring, adding a playmaking dimension to his game makes the Suns even scarier to play against.

“I  feel comfortable bringing the ball up, getting guys in the sets. I’m very comfortable with having the ball in my hands in general. As far making the right read, that is where my head is at right now.  Get into the paint, draw two, make the right read,” Green said about his growth as a playmaker for Phoenix.

By being more dynamic on offense, Green can become an even better player. The Suns will benefit from having him and Booker having multipe dimensions to their game, as that can help them compete at the highest level possible.
