Jaissle ‘might have to calm down a bit’ – Howey

Steve Howey says Matthias Jaissle “might have to calm down” on the touchline after picking up his first booking as Newcastle head coach on Saturday.

Jaissle was shown a yellow card by referee Rob Jones for repeatedly leaving his technical area in the second half against Bournemouth.

“I think he’s got to be careful because it will be identified by the officials,” said former defender Howey on BBC Radio Newcastle. “A lot of the managers do step outside of their technical area, and some are a lot worse than others and get away with it, but maybe it’s something they are going to clamp down on this season.

“There was something around the way he spoke to one of the referees in one of the games – I won’t say which one – but it did come across as very sarcastic when it didn’t have to be. So I do think he’s got to be a little bit careful.

“The fans like to see a manager fully-invested and fully-involved rather than someone who just sits down, but I think he might have to calm down just a little bit.

“He’s the new manager on the block and very few people knew much about him, but they know now he’s more than animated on the side.

“For the vast majority of it, I don’t have a problem with it, it’s just when it oversteps the line.”
