Jaissle: It’s not time to complain at Newcastle

Matthias Jaissle believes “it’s not time to complain” as the Newcastle United boss prepares for his first season in charge.

Jaissle signed a four-year deal at St. James’ Park following Eddie Howe’s surprise resignation, which was one of many key departures at the club this summer.

Magpies captain Bruno Guimaraes joined Arsenal last week, while Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon also departed for Tottenham and Barcelona, respectively.

The experienced Kieran Trippier left for Wolves as a free agent, while Newcastle have invested in youngsters such as Bazoumana Toure, Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur.

Jaissle has opted to take an optimistic approach to the role, insisting no good can come from complaining ahead of the 2026-27 season.

“It’s always a big challenge when there is a transition period, but it’s not time to complain. It doesn’t make sense to see the negative things,” said Jaissle.

“We want to see the change in that situation and that’s our approach on day one. We are here to do our best job, we want to support the players in the current squad.

“We need time now. We can only do our best day-by-day, breaking it down with a goal ahead. If we have that approach, I’m really optimistic that we are going in the right direction.

“It’s something you cannot plan in football. I’ve been in the industry long enough to know you cannot promise anything.

“It makes no sense now to promise you anything because I don’t know how things will look in half a year or one year. What we can control, we will control.”

Jaissle comes into the role with plenty of confidence, having become the first coach to win back-to-back Asian Champions League titles during his time at Al-Ahli.

He also won his first game in charge of Newcastle, defeating Valencia 2-1 in a friendly, while the Magpies will face Everton, Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg to round off their pre-season campaign.

Their first Premier League match of the season comes at home to Liverpool on August 23.
