Jaguars roster preview: Dane Jackson adds more experience to CB position
Between now and training camp, we will be going through the Jacksonville Jaguars’ full 90-man roster, previewing each player.
Up next is cornerback Dane Jackson.
- Height: 5-11
- Weight: 180
- Age: 29
- NFL experience: Year 7
- College: Pittsburgh
Jackson was a late addition to the Jaguars’ offseason roster, signed in early June just before minicamp began. Jackson signed a one-year deal worth $1.215 million.
Jackson was a seventh-round pick by Buffalo in 2020. He’s played 2,562 defensive snaps, playing in 64 games with 31 starts. Jackson has logged three career interceptions with 30 pass deflections.
Last season, Jackson appeared in two games defensively, playing just four snaps. His special teams experience over his career is fairly minimal, playing 327 snaps over six seasons.
At the top of the cornerback depth chart are Travis Hunter, Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and Jarrian Jones. That leaves one to two roster spots up for grabs on the final 53-man, depending on whether the Jaguars keep five or six players.
However, there appear to be two clear front-runners for those roster spots — Christian Braswell and Jabbar Muhammad. Braswell was on the roster last year and saw steady playing time during the second half of the season. Muhammad was a standout performer during offseason programs.
UDFA Preston Hodge is another player who had a strong showing this offseason.
Jackson has experience on his side, but he’s going to have to perform well to move up the depth chart. His sporadic special teams contributions may hinder that potential push.
