The Jacksonville Jaguars are no longer simply benefiting from last year’s breakthrough. At 3-1 through the opening month of the 2026 NFL season, Liam Coen‘s team is making a compelling case as a legitimate Super Bowl contender. One statistic explains why: Jacksonville has spent almost the entire season so far playing with the lead.

Through four games, the Jaguars have led for an astounding 2:48:33 of regulation time. That’s second only to the Baltimore Ravens’ 2:54:03. Even more impressive, Jacksonville has trailed for just 7:21. That’s easily the shortest amount of ‘trailing time’ in the NFL this season. Baltimore is second at 23:40.

That level of game control is difficult to manufacture. It speaks directly to the Jaguars’ balance, situational execution, and ability to dictate the terms of a game. Under Coen, Jacksonville has consistently protected advantages rather than allowing opponents to dictate tempo. Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile’s takeaway-hunting unit has repeatedly created opportunities to swing momentum. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, that may be more meaningful than any individual box-score statistic.

Jacksonville’s 2026 campaign has reinforced the notion that its 2025 division-winning season was no fluke. Trevor Lawrence has led an offense capable of winning different types of games. Chris Rodriguez Jr and Bhayshul Tuten have provided a physical ground presence. The defense, meanwhile, has been opportunistic. Foyesade Oluokun provides veteran leadership, and Travis Hunter adds another dynamic element. The Jaguars’ lone obvious concern is cleaning up self-inflicted penalties. Still, their ability to control games gives them a foundation few contenders can match. If Jacksonville continues dictating play from kickoff to the final whistle, the Super Bowl conversation will become increasingly difficult to ignore.
