Jackson Koivun was named as one of Brandt Snedeker’s six Presidents Cup captain’s picks earlier this week.

Koivun, who won the 3M Open in July, ranked 48th on the Presidents Cup points list and he is the world number 66.

So, selecting the 21-year-old for the showdown with the International Team at Medinah was a bold move from Snedeker.

However, the fact that Jackson Koivun won in what was only his third start as a professional proves that he belongs at the very highest level of the game.

How the youngster performs at the Presidents Cup later this month will give us all an indication of just how comfortable he is when playing in a seriously high-pressure environment.

Koivun was always confident in his chances of making the Presidents Cup team and now he will be very keen to deliver at Medinah.

Jackson Koivun told why he was picked for the Presidents Cup team

Trey Wingo was speaking on his YouTube channel about Koivun making the Presidents Cup team.

It was put to Wingo that the United States should use the Presidents Cup to give young golfers experience ahead of future Ryder Cups.

I think you could make a very compelling argument that’s why Jackson Koivun is on this team, for that specific reason, Wingo replied.

If he was, if he was going to be making his debut on an international team event in the Ryder Cup, in an away match, it might be very different had he not had the experience of playing a Presidents Cup on U.S. soil, and understanding that event.

Koivun obviously made the Presidents Cup team on merit.

However, the opportunity for the 21-year-old to gain some invaluable experience ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland was surely also a factor in Snedeker’s decision.

How Jackson Koivun discovered he’d been selected for the Presidents Cup

Koivun revealed how he found out he would be part of Team USA at Medinah.

“Sneds called me the day before it was announced, and he sent me a text,” the 21-year-old said.

“I didn’t have his number, and I didn’t know who it was because he didn’t say it was Sneds for two minutes.

“Then he called me. I was like, ‘What’s up?’ He goes, ‘Well, you’re going to Medinah,’ off the rip, and I was like, ‘Okay, let’s go.’

“I was pretty shocked. I probably could’ve given him a little more excitement, but I was just like a deer in headlights when he told me that.”
