Jackson Koivun reveals how Brandt Snedeker told him he had made the USA Presidents Cup team

Jackson Koivun has revealed his conversation with Brandt Snedeker after making the United States Presidents Cup team.

Koivun is only 66th in the Official World Golf Ranking and was 48th on the Presidents Cup qualification points list.

However, the 21-year-old won his first PGA Tour event at the 3M Open in July and is considered a world-class prospect.

He will join fellow captain’s picks Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Jacob Bridgeman at Medinah.

Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Russell Henley, Sam Burns and Collin Morikawa all qualified for Team USA.

Jackson Koivun told the Fore Play Podcast that United States captain Brandt Snedeker texted and called him the day before the team was announced.

Koivun sounded as though he was surprised by Snedeker’s decision to select him and was left speechless over the phone.

“Sneds called me the day before it was announced, and he sent me a text,” the former Auburn Tiger said.

“I didn’t have his number, and I didn’t know who it was because he didn’t say it was Sneds for two minutes.

“Then he called me. I was like, ‘What’s up?’ He goes, ‘Well, you’re going to Medinah,’ off the rip, and I was like, ‘Okay, let’s go.’

“I was pretty shocked. I probably could’ve given him a little more excitement, but I was just like a deer in headlights when he told me that.”

Koivun’s selection is arguably the biggest talking point ahead of the Presidents Cup, and he will be under pressure to perform.

However, the young American has already proven that he can play his best golf under the bright lights of PGA Tour Sundays.
