It's looking real, Premier League star to replace Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool
It’s really starting to look like a Premier League star will replace Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool.
We’re all very aware that Alexis Mac Allister is on the chopping block at Liverpool. For one thing, he pretty much said it out loud.
Mac Allister made some bombshell comments earlier this season, publicising the lack of contract talks with Liverpool. He’s adamant that he wants to stay, while the Reds seem less keen on that – reports suggest they tried to sell him in the summer but failed.
But we imagine they’ll try again next year. Journalist Ben Jacobs has certainly hinted at that, suggesting that new midfield signings hinge on Mac Allister’s sale.
The fact they’re lining up several replacements certainly points to a sale being at least a little likely. Though, the biggest sign is simply that Liverpool renewed contracts for Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch without even entering talks with Mac Allister.
Alex Scott to Liverpool
One other important note about Jacobs’ comments is that Alex Scott is on the shortlist. He’s there with Lamine Camara and Manu Kone and as things stand, we think the Bournemouth star is the most likely arrival.
Or at least the most likely replacement for a player as important as Mac Allister. There’s undoubtedly interest in Camara, for one, and he’d be a fantastic signing if Liverpool can get hold of him.
But Scott is a homegrown player who fits the attacking profile that the Reds clearly love in a midfielder. They sorely need more homegrown options and they don’t come better-placed than Scott, who’s still young but also experienced under Andoni Iraola.
Every major club expects there to be a battle for him next summer. Liverpool will almost certainly push their way to the front of the queue in an effort to snap him up.
There’s a long way to go, of course, but there’s no question that Liverpool can justify the big-money move for Scott. We do think he’s the most logical replacement for Mac Allister.
