‘It’s every footballer’s dream’ – Fabian not shying away from Ballon d’Or talk

Fabian Ruiz says winning the Ballon d’Or would be a “dream” and an “honour” following a trophy-laden 2025-26 season for club and country.

While Fabian missed a large part of last season through injury, he still enjoyed huge success for both Paris Saint-Germain and Spain.

In the last year with the French club, he has won Ligue 1, the Champions League, the 2025 Trophee des Champions, and the 2025 and 2026 UEFA Super Cups.

And this summer, he played a part in all eight of Spain’s matches on their way to winning the World Cup, starting four of those games and scoring one goal.

Asked how he would feel about winning the Ballon d’Or, Fabian noted that it would be a highlight.

“I think it’s every footballer’s dream,” Fabian told Telefoot, as quoted by AS.

“To be recognised individually for all your work during this season or several years in a row. The truth is, I’ve been lucky enough to win many team titles. Individual ones, few.

“And why not dream of being as close as possible to lifting this trophy? It would be something very special and an honour to be able to lift the Ballon d’Or.”

Only Pedri (four) created more chances than Fabian (two) in the World Cup final, despite him only playing 62 minutes before being withdrawn, while his 91.7% pass accuracy was only bettered by one other Spain starter – Marc Cucurella (93.3%).

Meanwhile, Fabian made 34 appearances in all competitions for PSG last term, scoring twice and registering five assists.

The Spaniard recently signed a new contract with the reigning French champions, with his new deal running through to June 2028.
