Isak leaves Sweden camp with ‘minor injury’

Alexander Isak has left Sweden’s camp and is returning to Liverpool after suffering “a minor injury” while on international duty.

Isak played the whole 90 minutes against Romania on Friday and was on the scoresheet in their 2-1 win, extending his hot streak to start the season.

The striker has five goals in eight matches for club and country so far this term. 

Isak had gone down and looked in some discomfort during the match against Romania but had initially said it was just a “heavy stamp” that led to his blood-stained sock.

Liverpool did not confirm the full extent of the injury in their statement, simply saying: “Isak is to return to Liverpool from international duty due to a minor injury.

“The striker will not be involved in Sweden’s three remaining fixtures in the current international break and will now be assessed by club medical staff at the AXA Training Centre.”

Isak endured an injury-hit first campaign at Anfield, suffering a leg fracture that ruled him out for months, having also missed five games between October and November last year with a groin issue.

However, Liverpool will hope he will be available for their first match after the international break, when they host Manchester City on October 11.
