A mixed pre-season campaign has seen the squad come through it relatively unscathed with only Mason Mount suffering a significant injury which is likely to keep him on the sidelines. United have also replaced Casemiro with midfield reinforcements Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans while they are negotiating to bring in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba as well.

The Red Devils’ opponents are Hull City who won promotion from the Championship via the play-offs. Hull finished 6th in the second division with 21 wins from their 46 games but only won one of their last seven league matches before victory in play-off rounds against Millwall and Middlesbrough in the final.

Their aim for the season is to secure their place in the top-flight and any points they can take of United in this opening encounter will be beneficial for the rest of their season. Here’s everything you need to know:

When is Hull vs Manchester United?

Hull host Manchester United on Saturday 22 August at the MKM Stadium with kick off at 12.30pm, making it the second fixture of the top-flight season after Arsenal take on Coventry on Friday evening.

How can I watch it?

The match will be broadcast on TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate with coverage beginning at 11am. The game will also be streamed live on Discovery+, though it will require an active subscription to watch.

What is the teams news?

Hull City have plenty of injuries to navigate with key players missing. Goalkeeper Jack Butland is out and so to are defenders John Egan, Cody Drameh, Charlie Hughes, and Jens Hjertø-Dahl. In midfield Darko Gyabi, Paddy McNair, Matty Jacob, and Oscar Zambrano are absent while forwards Liam Millar and Enis Destan are unlikely to feature.

Michael Carrick, meanwhile, has a fair amount of squad players to select from. Benjamin Sesko is back in training despite not taking part in pre-season though he could make an appearance off the bench. Matthijs de Ligt has also trained but his recovery will be managed and he is not expected to return until October. Mason Mount meanwhile has a foot issue, sustained in the draw with PSG and will not play. Manuel Ugarte is a long-term absentee due to an ACL injury picked up in the World Cup.
