IPAC projects 2.5m electorate to vote in 2027 general election in Cross River

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Cross River State has projected that no fewer than 2.5m eligible voters will cast their votes in next year’s general election.

Chairman of IPAC in the state, Effiom Edet Okon disclosed this at a press conference where he stated that over the past weeks, they have mobilised political parties across the 18 LGAs towards ensuring their supporters and members get themselves registered for the election.

He maintained that they worked hand in hand with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, civil society organisations, youth and women groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market associations, and community stakeholders during the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, to ensure that no eligible citizen was left behind.

“Today, IPAC confidently declares that, with the ongoing mobilisation and the cooperation of INEC and every stakeholder involved in this exercise, Cross River State is on course to record not less than 2.5 million votes in the 2027 General Elections.

“This is not merely a projection; it is a collective target that every stakeholder must work tirelessly to achieve.

“A higher voter population means a stronger democratic mandate, greater political relevance, increased national recognition, and a louder voice for Cross River State in determining the future of Nigeria.”

It would be recalled that in the 2023 general election, 1.766m voters were registered. The current population estimate of the state is above 5m.

They called on eligible residents in the state to get themselves registered in the remaining days of the CVR, reminding that, “Democracy begins with voter registration. And so, No Voter’s Card, No Voice. No Registration, No Participation.”
