Insecurity: Over 30 villages abandoned in Sokoto – ADC candidate raises concern

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has expressed concern over reports that more than 30 villages in Danchadi District of Bodinga Local Government Area have been deserted due to persistent bandit attacks.

Dan’iya, popularly known as Walin Sokoto, described the situation as a serious security and humanitarian challenge that requires urgent action from both the federal and the Sokoto State governments.

In a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC candidate said the continued attacks, killings, kidnappings and destruction of property have forced many families to flee their homes.

According to him, the reported abandonment of the villages shows that insecurity is worsening and that stronger measures are needed to protect residents.

“It is deeply troubling that entire communities are being displaced while many families continue to live in fear,” he said.

“The protection of lives and property remains the foremost constitutional responsibility of government, and every effort must be made to restore confidence among our people.”

Dan’iya said repeated calls by residents, traditional leaders and other stakeholders for improved security had not produced the desired results in many affected communities.

He urged the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve cooperation among security agencies and work more closely with local communities and traditional institutions to tackle the crisis.

“Government must demonstrate greater urgency in responding to this crisis. The continued expansion of insecurity into more communities is unacceptable and requires immediate, coordinated and practical solutions that will restore peace and safeguard the lives of our citizens,” he said.

“If the situation is not addressed quickly, it could further affect farming, trade, education and other economic activities that rural communities depend on.”

He also called for increased security operations in affected areas, better logistical support for security agencies and humanitarian assistance for displaced residents.

According to him, Sokoto has great potential for growth, but insecurity is holding the state back. He urged the government to intensify efforts to reclaim affected communities from criminals so that residents can live and work without fear.

Dan’iya also appealed to residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at restoring peace across the state.
