Indiana football receiver Charlie Becker gets help from Pat McAfee to fight ALS

Charlie Becker emerged as a legit target at wide receiver for Indiana football midway through last season, scoring four touchdowns as the Hoosiers won the national championship.

He’s ready to give back as he moves into a more prominent role in IU’s offense.

Becker appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and said he would give $1,000 for every touchdown he scores this season to the Huddle for Hope, a foundation that seeks a cure for ALS.

“My family has always been super close and five years ago we learned that my aunt was diagnosed with ALS,” Becker said. “That affected all of us. I was in a spot where I really couldn’t help, and I really wanted to, because there’s not a cure.”

Now earning NIL money, Becker can contribute.

McAfee promptly said he would match Becker’s contributions, and McAfee’s studio co-hosts suggested other famous IU alumni — naming Mark Cuban, Joe Buck and Fernando Mendoza — as potential contributors.

Mendoza’s mother, Elsa, suffers from multiple sclerosis, and the No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick has been active in fighting MS for years.
