Indiana Fever lose veteran to season-ending injury

After missing the past five games with a left knee ailment, the Indiana Fever (19-11) revealed devastating news about backup center Damiris Dantas’ injury status.

The Fever announced that the 6-foot-4 veteran will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season after undergoing successful surgery on Monday to repair a torn meniscus in her left knee.

Dantas will finish her second season with the Fever, averaging 3.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in just 8:12 of playing time across 12 games played.

While hindsight is always 20-20, Dantas was one of the players that General Manager Amber Cox elected to keep on the Fever roster instead of retaining rookie guard Justine Pissott when the Las Vegas Aces offered and signed the 2026 second-rounder to a standard player contract.

If there is any consolation out of this news, it is that the Fever recently signed forward Michelle Onyiah to their second and final development contract spot, which should at the very least replace Dantas on the depth chart.

Ironically, the Fever host Pissott and the Aces (21-9) from Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. CT on Amazon Prime Video.
