Viktor Gyokeres revelled in his sensational scoring streak in the Nations League after his goal helped Sweden beat Romania 1-0 at Arena Nationala on Monday.

Gyokeres netted the only goal in the 13th minute, tucking in from close range after Sebastian Nanasi had turned a cross to the back post against the woodwork.

The in-form Arsenal striker has now scored in his last seven consecutive Nations League matches, while this was his fourth successive goal in this year’s campaign.

Gyokeres’ four goals are the joint-most in this year’s competition, level with Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Leo Walta, Michael Olise and Troy Parrott.

His contributions to Graham Potter’s side have been crucial after Alexander Isak withdrew from the squad with an injury, but Sweden have remained unbeaten in his absence.

Sweden are top of Group B4 after four matches, winning three of those, putting themselves in a commanding position to return to the top table of the Nations League.

Gyokeres’ form comes at a crucial time ahead of the return of the Premier League, as Kai Havertz sustained an injury while playing for Germany, with the Swede the likely replacement for Mikel Arteta’s side when they face Leeds United this Saturday.

The 28-year-old has failed to score in his first five appearances in all competitions for the Gunners in 2026-27, with just two of those being starts, but Gyokeres feels his strong run during the international break has put him back at the top of his game.

“It feels good. It feels like you get good chances, and then you score,” Gyokeres told Viaplay, as quoted by Fotbolldirekt.

“But we could have done more in the first half and killed the game.

“We let them play and didn’t get up in the press well enough in the second half, so we made it difficult for ourselves.”

Sweden dominated their clash with Romania and should have added further gloss to the scoreline.

Potter’s side finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.8 from their 12 shots, though only two were on target, compared to Romania’s tally of 0.6 from 13 attempts.

Gyokeres was, however, pleased with the defensive display from his team, with Sweden keeping their first clean sheet in this year’s Nations League.

“It’s important for the team to have this type of match where things may not go exactly as we want,” Gyokeres added.

“We managed to keep a clean sheet. It’s been a while, so that’s very positive. Then it’s clear that we need to control the match a little more.”

Sweden return to action next month when they face Bosnia-Herzegovina on November 14 before they take on Poland three days later.
