‘In another light’ – Sydney Colson on what it’s like being on a team with Caitlin Clark

· · 2 min read

Having spent time in the same locker room, Sydney Colson gave a refreshing perspective on Caitlin Clark.

Sydney Colson’s time with the Fever was defined more by the training room than the stat sheet. Nagging injuries kept her off the court for almost the entire run, leaving her with minimal minutes and a lot of time watching in warmups. But even without making an impact on the floor, her voice in the locker room carried real weight.

Since stepping away, she’s pulled zero punches, calling out Sophie Cunningham over public stances that split the players, while taking direct aim at toxic online fan behavior. She didn’t need big minutes in Indiana to become one of the league’s most outspoken figures.

Sydney Colson only has positives about Caitlin Clark

Sydney Colson gave us a real look inside the Fever locker room, opening up about what it was actually like being teammates with Caitlin Clark.

She talked about the intense weight on Clark’s shoulders and how great it was seeing her make jokes, stay lighthearted, and just be a regular teammate while fighting through injuries.

Colson said on the Good Follow show: “It was cool being on a team with her, getting to see her in another light over the course of her career. I think, you know, we haven’t had many instances where we’ve seen Caitlin, Angel, Paige, like players come in with the sort of notoriety that they have, the sort of money that they’re making, the attention. It’s a lot for a young person to be dealing with on top of pressure to do well as a basketball player.

“So it was good to be able to see like a lighter side of her. You know, I think especially, unfortunately, when she was injured, you’re having to adjust your mindset. You’re having to get mentally tougher because I don’t think she had like a bad injury before.

“Contribute her desire to become a better leader and, you know, to come back because there were times where maybe, you know, she thought she was coming back and then it wouldn’t happen. And then, or another in like little thing will happen that turned into a big thing. But to see her, her fun side, I think that was the most important part to see her being jovial and lighthearted and having fun with her teammates.

“I don’t think was like a side that people saw a lot last season. And so I would just be telling her like, you know, more of that.”

Caitlin Clark has been caught in a relentless media crossfire since day one. Every hard foul gets dissected for hidden motives, while toxic online groups use her image to fight political battles she never asked for.

But it’s refreshing to hear that Clark is being painted in a positive light, even by someone like Colson who has her unfiltered takes and has gone after Sophie Cunningham.
