Ijebu Ode: Ogun Govt confirms gas leakage, says 60 students affected

The Ogun State government has confirmed a gas leakage incident that affected students of Our Lady of Apostle Primary and Secondary schools, OLAS, Ijebu-Ode, on Wednesday.

The Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, in an interview with DAILY POST disclosed that 60 students were affected.

Recall that the recent is the third in three months.

The first leakage happened on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 leading to the admission of not less than 30 students and two teachers at the State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.

Barely one month and two weeks after, another gas leakage occurred in the same school and others, affecting over 100 students and teachers in the local government.

Following the development, Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered the immediate closure of the school and investigation into the incident to prevent future occurrence.

The governor also directed the opening of a situation room at the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, which offered free treatment to other students and residents of the impacted areas such as Makalewo, Ogbogbo, Molipa, Igbegba, Ikoto and Oke-Aje market.

However, the same gas leakage occurred again on Wednesday, during school hours, causing discomfort, breathing difficulties and panic within the school premises.

The affected students were immediately evacuated and rushed to the State Hospital, Ijebu Ode.

When contacted the Commissioner for Environment said the government is taking immediate action to address the recurring incident.

According to him, the state government has identified a gas facility in the area and will shut it down as part of efforts to determine the source of the strange smell.

He said, “It was gas pipeline leakage from a company.

“We are not taking chances. We are going to shut down gas the company. About 60 students were affected.”
