Idris Elba’s New MI6 Spy Series Officially Arrives in 2027
Idris Elba is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and although he likely won’t get the chance to play the next James Bond, he still has plenty of things in the works to be excited about. Earlier this year, Elba starred in Masters of the Universe for Amazon MGM, and while the movie never got off the ground at the box office, it has since become one of the most-watched films of the entire year on Prime Video. In just a few weeks, Elba will return to the big screen with the release of his new sci-fi thriller, Above the Below, which is set to hit theaters on December 4. He also has three new projects on the schedule for 2027, starting with Children of Blood and Bone, the fantasy movie that opens on January 15.
Just two months after the release of Children of Blood and Bone, Idris Elba will reprise his role as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is launching around the world on March 19. There’s also his new animated movie, High in the Clouds, which is confirmed for a 2027 premiere but still lacking an official date. However, launching just two months after Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is Elba’s new MI6 spy thriller, Exiles, a new book he wrote with bestselling author Adam Hamdy. Executive Editor Julian Pavia has already acquired the rights to three books in this new series, which kicks off in May 2027. The first book, published as a Bantam hardcover, follows Joe Kane, an MI6 field operative tasked with handling some of the agency’s most complex and dangerous missions. An audiobook version will be released at the same time.

The movie has already wrapped filming and is expected to be released later in 2027. Elba is also reprising his role as John Luther in a new Luther movie that’s wrapped filming as well, but the film is still without a release date or window.
