'I quit': Joel Embiid says he may stop doing one thing for the 76ers now

· · 2 min read

Despite a strong start to the season, the Philadelphia 76ers have struggled with their three-point volume and consistency.

Joel Embiid, in particular, has been really poor on that front, and the long-serving Sixers hero’s stats make for very poor viewing.

That is perhaps why the 32-year-old joked after the win against the Pacers that he may stop shooting three-pointers altogether.

Embiid has played five games for the Philadelphia 76ers so far this season, and although his overall performances have mostly been great, his shooting from three-point range has been poor.

Including the numbers from the Sixers’ win over the Knicks in the NBA Cup, the 32-year-old has attempted 21 three-pointers and scored just three.

That’s a 14.3 per cent success rate, which is a terrible return.

In the last three games alone, Embiid has attempted 10 three-pointers but has failed every single time, scoring none.

Those numbers since the start of the season have left him disappointed, which is probably why he told reporters that he may not take a three-pointer again.

'I quit': Joel Embiid says he

He said after the win over the Pacers, as per Adam Aaronson on X: “We don’t shoot enough threes right now. I think I might just give up on shooting threes myself. Can’t make any as a team.

“We shot pretty good tonight (vs Pacers), but overall, since the season started, it just hasn’t been it – starting with me. So yeah, I quit.

“But it’s good to have Anfernee (Simons). That’s one of the main things that he does.”

Of course, the above is a response in disappointment and perhaps a light-hearted one too, as Embiid attempted four three-pointers in the NBA Cup clash against the Knicks two days after his comments. But again, he scored none.

That needs to improve going forward, not just for Embiid but for the whole team.
