Inter Miami boss Guillermo Hoyos insisted his side are determined to turn their poor MLS form around when they host CF Montreal on Saturday.

The Herons are winless in five straight matches in all competitions (D1 L4), including four in which Lionel Messi appeared (D1 L3).

Messi’s club team have gone winless in five straight matches in which he appeared only twice in his career, both with Barcelona, in February-March 2009 and March-April 2013.

The Argentine has impressed during their current run, either scoring or assisting in each of their last three games (two goals, one assist).

Messi netted Miami’s only goal last time out as they lost 2-1 at home to Toronto FC, a result which continued to hinder the Herons’ chances of winning the Supporters’ Shield.

Miami remain second in the Eastern Conference, but are now 10 points behind leaders Nashville SC, who beat Miami 4-1 during this five-game winless run.

Nevertheless, Hoyos believes the experience of the team and coaching staff will help Miami get back to winning ways.

“Our players never play without determination. Never,” said Hoyos, who is reportedly set to be replaced at the helm by Kily Gonzalez.

“It’s a situation we are living, and we have to face it and take responsibility [as coaches].

“We have a lot of experience and when we started, thank God we started very well.”

Montreal are currently 14th in the East, though just three points off the play-off spots after stringing together a four-match unbeaten run (W1 D3).

They drew 2-2 with 10-man LA Galaxy last time out, while their most recent away trip saw them defeat the Columbus Crew 2-1.

Lionel Messi has scored braces in each of his last two meetings with Montreal, both in the 2025 season.

Messi has scored multiple goals in three straight matches against a single opponent eight times in his club career, including two, Nashville SC and New England, against MLS foes (six v Spanish opponents).

Prince Owusu (13 goals, six assists) has been involved in 19 of Montreal’s 29 goals this regular season, including nine of the last 11.

With one more goal contribution, Owusu will become the fifth Montreal player to contribute to at least 20 goals in a single season.

MATCH PREDICTION – INTER MIAMI WIN

Inter Miami have won four straight meetings with CF Montreal, including a 1–0 road win on July 25, after winning just two of the first nine meetings (D1 L6).

Miami’s only longer regular-season winning streak against a single opponent was a five-match run against Toronto FC from 2021–22.

Montreal have one win in their last 10 regular-season matches (D6 L3), a 2–1 victory over the last place team in the East, Columbus. However, Montreal are unbeaten in four straight (D3 L1), last losing on July 25 against Inter Miami (0–1 at home).
