How Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Darius Acuff Jr. fared in Summer League debuts

NBA Summer League kicked during the holiday weekend. Between 4th of July cookouts, hot dog eating contests, regular season baseball and the World Cup, it’s understandable if you weren’t watching pre-preseason exhibitions featuring a lot of players who won’t play once the regular season rolls around.

But just because it wasn’t worth your time to watch it live that doesn’t mean nothing notable happened. A number of notable draft picks including the second and third picks made their professional debuts. Here’s how they did:

Darryn Peterson vs. Hawks

Darryn Peterson has incredibly high expectations this season. He scored 28 points in 27 minutes on 11-of-21 shooting. He made 4-of-7 three-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and had two assists and two blocks to go along with a very Summer League-y eight turnovers in an overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Kingston Flemmings, the eighth pick in the draft, had 14 points, nine assists, four steals and just one turnover for Atlanta.

Cameron Boozer vs. Thunder

Cameron Boozer had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes. He made 7-of-11 shots and was 1-of-3 from three as the Memphis Grizzlies blew out the Oklahoma City Thunder, 111-74.

The Thunder had two ’26 first round picks on the floor Saturday. Aday Mara, the No. 12 pick out of Michigan had 10 points, three rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Bennet Stirtz, the No. 16 pick who came over in a draft night trade, had 10 points and four assists.

Darius Acuff Jr. vs. Nets

Darius Acuff Jr., the seventh pick in the draft, scored a game-high 25 points and dished out four assists as the Sacramento Kings beat the Brooklyn Nets, 79-76. Acuff took a lot of shots to get his points making just 9-of-29 field goal attempts and went just 1-for-9 from three.

Mikel Brown, the sixth pick in the draft by the Nets, just signed his contract on Thursday so he was not active.

Golden State Warriors Blue vs. Milwaukee Bucks

Nothing to see here. Yaxel Lendeborg looked good in his debut on Friday in the other Warriors’ game against the Lakers which meant he was not involved. Brayden Burries and Nate Ament, who the Bucks took with the two first round picks they acquired in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, did not play either.
