Hornets’ Schedule: Toughest Games For The 2026-27 NBA Season

The 2026-27 NBA regular season is right around the corner, which means Charlotte Hornets basketball is almost back. The Hornets’ schedule is packed with interesting matchups and brutal road stretches that will test this young core. The limelight is officially on Brandon Miller, as he’s been given the keys to the franchise, currently awaiting his contract extension. These are the games when the lights will be the brightest.

The Hornets only have six nationally televised games this season. The schedule has some bright spots, but let’s look at the most grueling games of the season.

The most sentimental games will be the two the Hornets play against LaMelo Ball and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Charlotte will face off at Minnesota on January 29th, and at Spectrum Center on February 15th.

Strangely, the highly anticipated return of Ball to Charlotte is scheduled for a Monday at 12:00 PM EST. Nonetheless, the matchup is expected to be an intense one.

Since it will be over halfway through the season before these two teams meet, fans will have a large enough sample size to know whether the Ball trade was positively impactful for either team. There will be several storylines heading into this game, and right after it as well.

Expectations for Charlotte are still high without Ball this upcoming season. If he is healthy and storms into Charlotte with a remarkable performance and a win, the alarms will be ringing off in the Queen City.

The Hornets are set to face off against the new-look Philadelphia 76ers a grueling four times this upcoming season. The scheduled matchups for the season series are October 31st, December 21st, March 3rd, and April 11th.

The Sixers made extreme changes to their roster this offseason — trading for Jaylen Brown and signing one of the best players to ever play in LeBron James. They also drafted Labaron Philon Jr. with the No. 22 overall pick, which many consider one of the biggest steals of the 2026 NBA Draft.

James has dominated Charlotte throughout his NBA career, going 50-9 against the franchise in the regular season. Father Time hasn’t fully caught up with James, so that same dominance could continue alongside an intimidating lineup of Brown, VJ Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid.

After their early test on October 31st with the Sixers, the Hornets then have the Pistons, Celtics, and the Cavaliers as their next three home games. Every single one of these teams made the playoffs last year. This won’t be an easy stretch at all.

Starting on January 9th, the Hornets will be on a prolonged road trip on the West Coast until January 22nd. They are in Portland on the 9th, Sacramento on the 10th, Golden State on the 13th, Utah on the 14th, Denver on the 16th, and Dallas on the 19th. That stretch includes two back-to-backs.

Charlotte was actually a pretty strong road team last season — going 23-18 in games away from Spectrum Center. The long road trips and changing time zones can be difficult to get used to, and how head coach Charles Lee’s squad performs during this gruesome stretch will tell a lot about the team.

Since this occurs in the middle of the season, this trip could be the tipping point on whether or not the Hornets can sneak into the playoffs in this bolstered Eastern Conference.
