HIGHLIGHTS: No. 6 Wall holds off No. 10 Canyon West Plains in thriller

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Wall Hawks opened their 2026 season with a thriller on Friday, Aug 28.

After winning a state championship in 2025 and jumping from Class 3A Division II to Division I in the offseason, the Wall Hawks have officially kicked off their 2026 season. And the champions were tested Friday night, facing a Class 4A Division I and top-ten opponent, the Canyon West Plains Wolves.

The Wolves and Hawks exchanged scores throughout the entire game. Canyon West Plains scored on the first play from scrimmage to lead 7-0 before Wall quarterback Gunner King found receiver Evan Boehle in the end zone for a game-tying touchdown two possessions later. The Wolves responded with another touchdown to lead 14-7 after the first quarter, but it only took Wall five plays to tie the game again on a 75-yard touchdown drive.

In the end, Wall held on for a tight 42-35 win. The Hawks have now won 17 straight games dating back to August 2025.

The Hawks visit the La Joya Coyotes in week two, beginning Friday, Sept 4.
