HIGHLIGHTS: Grape Creek Eagles come up short in non-district finale against Bangs

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Grape Creek Eagles wrapped up their non-district schedule with a 42-0 loss at home against the Bangs Dragons Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

Bangs improved to 3-2, and Grape Creek dropped to 0-5.

It was the second-straight shutout loss for the Eagles, who have next week off before opening District 3-3A Division II play at home against Crane on Oct. 9.

Bangs also has a bye next week before opening District 7-2A Division I play on the road against No. 2 Mason on Oct. 9. The Punchers are 5-0.

Grape Creek recovered a pair of fumbles in the first half, but the Eagles weren’t able to capitalize on the miscues.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Dragons opened the scoring on a 12-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Ryder Duncan to Carson Hardin. Jaxon Duncan added a two-point conversion run, making it 8-0 with 4:59 left in the first half.

Later in the second quarter, Duncan connected with Ryan Alqorum on a short TD pass to make it 14-0 at the 3:46 mark. The Dragons went for another two-point conversion, but came up short on a run.

On the final possession of the first half, the Eagles were trying desperately to put some points on the scoreboard. They were in Bangs territory, but got intercepted on the final play of the second quarter.

Grape Creek tried to regroup at the half, but the Dragons kept breathing fire.
