High school football rankings: Lake Travis, Vandegrift at top of 6A in Austin area

· · 2 min read

The first full week of the Central Texas high school football season didn’t lack any drama. Westlake defeated Inglewood, Calif., on a late touchdown and Weiss used two fourth-quarter scores to beat Round Rock 42-28 in a matchup of two teams in the American-Statesman’s preseason top 10

In perhaps the most riveting finish, and a game that ended after midnight due to weather delays, Vandegrift rallied from a 21-10 deficit with less than six minutes to play in the fourth quarter and eventually beat San Antonio Brennan 28-21 in overtime.

Though lightning cancelled several contests Thursday and Friday, most teams got their games in.

Here are the top five rankings for each classification in the Austin area.
