‘He’s lying’ – Dani Olmo blasts Roberto Ayala’s apology after World Cup final punch

Barcelona star Dani Olmo has hit out at Roberto Ayala after the Argentina coach issued an an apology of sorts for his behavior after the World Cup final.

Ayala was spotted punching Olmo, but subsequently insisted it was “more of a push,” and claimed his actions were in response to comments from the Barcelona forward.

Olmo has now had his say and insists he didn’t say anything and that Argentina should have accepted the final defeat with good grace.

“Someone who confesses to being sorry, but justifies a punch by claiming that it was a response to a saying, is probably not sorry, because he is lying, because I didn’t say anything to him, so I don’t need him to apologize,” he told Diari de Terrassa.

“What really defines us is not the mistake, but the courage to accept it with humility, truth and dignity.”

Olmo also spoke out on the importance of setting a good example to future generations.

“When my children, my family and so many fans and the people of Terrassa watch the game, I want them to be proud of how we compete, how we win, and above all, of our behavior, because the transcendence of football makes us players an example for children and new generations, and that carries a great responsibility,” he added.

“But thank God, what is really important is that we have experienced an incredible World Cup, that the world has seen it and that we are world champions after a lot of work.”

The Barcelona star is currently on holiday after helping Spain win the World Cup and is due to link back up with Hansi Flick’s side on August 12th.
