Here's who made the New England Patriots roster this season

The New England Patriots roster should feel different this season.

Drake Maye established himself as an MVP candidate last year. Splashes in free agency and the trade market surrounded the quarterback with talent that was lacking in key spots. The end of the roster might’ve had some shuffling, but the important pieces for New England were penciled in long ago.

AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs were always going to be the 1-2 in New England’s receiving corps. Trading Kayshon Boutte to the Texans solved the only true question of the offseason. New England opted to carry six receivers on its 53-man roster with Pop Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism III completing the group.

Alijah Vera-Tucker and Caleb Lomu were the top additions to the offensive line as the former slips into a starting role at right guard. Lomu, New England’s first-round pick, is the top swing tackle should Will Campbell or Morgan Moses miss time.

Christian Gonzalez returns, without a new contract, as New England’s top cornerback. He reached his potential last year and leads a secondary that signed Kevin Byard to a one-year deal. Christian Barmore, Milton Williams and Robert Spillane are among key returnees with Gonzalez.

It’s a roster that has more high-end talent than a year ago. Depth at linebacker, defensive end and guard is lacking, but New England is in a better place than it was a year ago.
