HELSB, Madison Life Launch Scholarship Programme for Five Zambian Students

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB), in partnership with Madison Life Insurance Company (MLife), has launched the HELSB–MLife Scholarship Programme for the 2026 academic year, benefiting five students from public universities across Zambia.

The programme was launched on during a cocktail held at the Southern Sun Hotel in Lusaka, attended by HELSB Board members and staff, representatives of Madison Life, partner universities, scholarship beneficiaries and other invited guests.

The five beneficiaries are Blessing Kachali of Chalimbana University, Sifata Mary Nyambe of Copperbelt University, Erick Miyanda of Kwame Nkrumah University, Dalitsilo Siachitema of the University of Zambia, and Emmanuel Kasonde of Mulungushi University.

Speaking at the event, HELSB Board Chairperson, Leonard Mwanza, described the initiative as more than the award of scholarships, saying it represents a strategic partnership built on the shared belief that education is one of the most sustainable investments a nation can make.

Mwanza commended Madison Life for partnering with HELSB and urged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies, uphold integrity and use the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the country.

Also speaking, Madison Life Insurance Company Managing Director, Agnes Chakonta, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting education and contributing to Zambia’s human capital development.

Chakonta said the partnership with HELSB demonstrates MLife’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people, particularly deserving students facing financial challenges.

She noted that investment in education goes beyond supporting individual students, as it contributes to the development of a skilled workforce and the building of a stronger future for Zambia.

Chakonta urged the five beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity and strive to become positive contributors to society.

The HELSB–MLife Scholarship Programme highlights the role of public-private partnerships in expanding opportunities for students and promoting equitable access to higher education.

HELSB said it remains committed to strengthening partnerships that support deserving learners and contribute to Zambia’s human capital development.
