HBO Officially Releasing New Series Remake Of Alfred Hitchcock’s 63-Year-Old Classic Thriller
Alfred Hitchock’s The Birds is about to fly back to the screen on HBO.
Based on Daphne du Maurier’s horror story of the same name, the 1963 thriller largely centered on socialite Melanie Daniels and the small town of Bodega Bay as it comes under attack from various species of birds, with no real cause for the attacks. Led by Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, Tippi Hedren and Veronica Cartwright, The Birds remains one of Hitchcock’s most acclaimed films, with a variety of attempts made to produce some kind of follow-up.
Now, after reports of the 63-year-old classic getting a TV remake swirled in May, Deadline has now revealed that HBO is moving forward with a limited series incarnation of Hitchcock’s The Birds. The new series, which is being produced by Universal Global Television, is now set to star Emmy winner Sarah Snook as new female protagonist, Myra Massey, with the plot said to be set in Alaska with a murder mystery at its center. Watchmen alum Tom Spezialy is executive producing and wrote the pilot for The Birds, while Harry Potter alum David Heyman is also onboard as EP.
