Half marathon cancelled just weeks before event

This year’s Wolverhampton Half Marathon, due to take place next month, has been cancelled, according to a statement on its website.

Due to the loss and unavailability of “key personnel within the organisation”, those behind it said “we are unable to deliver” the event that was scheduled for 6 September.

All entrants would get a full refund, they said, adding they looked forward to returning and welcoming people back on 5 September 2027.

StuWeb Race Timing, which provides event management around the world, said on Facebook it was “with a heavy heart” they have made “the difficult decision” to cancel the half marathon and 10K in the city this year.

This was “not a decision we have taken lightly”, they added.

“We know many of you have been training for months and were looking forward to race day,” their statement went on.

“We are truly sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience this news will cause.”

‘Incredibly grateful’

Refunds were being processed as quickly as possible and would be completed by 14 August at the latest, the half marathon website said.

In a frequently asked questions section, under why might some refunds take longer than others, it was stated many entries were made through third-party platforms.

Providers each had their own refund processes and timescales, which could affect how quickly “the refund reaches you”, the website added.

Organisers said refunds would be processed automatically using the payment method used to enter.

The half marathon team thanked people for their “support, patience and understanding”.
