Guernsey’s Galpin misses out on 200m semi-finals

Guernsey’s Abi Galpin has missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the women’s 200m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Guernsey record-holder, 25, was unable to match her success of four years ago when she made it through the heats.

Galpin finished fifth in her heat in a time of 24.45 seconds, 0.63secs off her island record.

She ended in 25th overall, eight places and 0.57secs off a spot in the semi-finals.

Her Commonwealth Games are not over – she still has the long jump to compete in which starts on Friday.

“It was great to be out there, I really enjoyed the crowd and the support,” Galpin told BBC Guernsey.

“I think I got a decent start. I probably would have hoped for a quicker time, but it is what it is, and it was great to be out on such a quick track and race such fast girls.”

Guernsey’s bowlers remain top of their groups after each winning their second match at Glasgow 2026.

Alison Merrien was never behind has she beat Botswana’s Boikhutso Mooketsi by two sets to nil in the women’s singles.

Merrien won a close opening set 6-3 before storming to victory with a 13-3 win in the second set.

She next faces Singapore’s unbeaten Serena Tiong on Thursday in her third pool match.

Meanwhile, Merrien’s husband Ian and Jason Greenslade thrashed Niue in their second men’s pairs match.

The pair won the first set 9-1 and came from a shot down to win the second set 13-2.

They will meet Wales’ Daniel Salmon and Ross Owen on Thursday.
