Guernsey boxer Niall Adams overcame a point deduction to win his last-16 bout at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The 28-year-old lightweight won a split decision over Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Jayanath after winning on a judges vote 4-1 following a majority draw.

Adams won the first round with all five judges as his good work rate impressed.

But he was docked a point in the second following a clash of heads as the smaller Adams tried to get inside his taller opponent.

Jayanath – who reached the last 16 in last year’s IBA World Cup – had the better of the final round, but it was not enough to overturn the result.

Adams will guarantee himself a medal should he win his quarter-final bout against Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo on Wednesday night.
