Green Bay Packers pull off unprecedented feat in dramatic overtime win against Jets

The Green Bay Packers dealt with a series of injuries against the New York Jets, with Jayden Reed and Zach Bako Bewele among the players forced out of the game. Despite the setbacks, Green Bay managed to overcome the injuries and erase a double digit deficit in the fourth quarter in East Rutherford.

The Packers made NFL history by winning despite an extraordinary combination of setbacks. Since 1941, no team on record had won a game while finishing with fewer than 200 total yards, 100 or more penalty yards, and a negative turnover margin. Green Bay managed to do it with 199 total yards, 133 penalty yards, and a minus one turnover margin. Before the Packers pulled it off, teams in that situation had gone 0-44.

Green Bay found itself down 17-7 before mounting a late comeback to force overtime. Trey Smack delivered the decisive points in the extra period, giving the Packers a 20-17 victory over the Jets. The win also ended a six game losing streak that stretched back to Micah Parsons‘ last game last season.

The Packers headed into its matchup at MetLife Stadium trying to put a difficult stretch behind it. The Packers opened the season with a 39-22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, adding another defeat to the five straight losses they suffered to finish the 2025 campaign. That skid included their Wild Card loss to the Chicago Bears.

Love struggled to generate much through the air, finishing with just 145 passing yards against Aaron Glenn’s varied coverage schemes. The Jets also put pressure on him throughout the game, recording three sacks. Love then had to continue without Jayden Reed after the receiver suffered a concerning injury.

Matt LaFleur and the Packers will have a chance to move above .500 when they host the winless Atlanta Falcons in their Week 3 home opener on Thursday Night Football.
