Gov Otti narrates how he escaped assassination attempt in Abuja

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has narrated how he nearly lost his life to assassins while pursuing his gubernatorial ambition.

According to Governor Otti, about 12 assassins who came to kill him in July 2015 in Maitama, Abuja, could not succeed because he had left the place shortly before the arrival of the gunmen.

He told the story in Umuahia on Thursday during a solemn assembly and covenant renewal service organised by the Abia State Government to rededicate the state to God.

Governor Otti, who thanked God for saving his life from the gunmen’s bullets, said the assassins believed he was still inside the building when they arrived, not knowing that he had left the venue.

“They shot two persons. They were looking for me, but God had taken me away.

“They finished; they couldn’t find me. They were about 12.

“They jumped into the next compound and stripped the whole place. They thought I was there, but I had left,” Governor Otti recalled.

He said the solemn assembly was organised to rededicate Abia State to God and ensure that the state remained in the hands of God, rather than fetish idols and evil societies.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Solemn Assembly and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, claimed that Abia State had been in captivity for many years until God raised Governor Otti to rescue the state, which he said necessitated the rededication.
