Gov Mutfwang summons emergency security council meeting over recent attacks in Plateau

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called an emergency meeting of the State Security Council to review recent security incidents and strengthen efforts to protect residents across the state.

The meeting was held on Wednesday at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos. It focused on finding lasting solutions to insecurity, protecting lives and property, and creating a safer environment for businesses and other economic activities.

Those present included the Deputy Governor, security and law enforcement chiefs in the state, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior government officials.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, said discussions “focused extensively on emerging security threats, recent incidents recorded in some communities, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations, inter-agency coordination, and strategies for safeguarding lives, property and economic activities across Plateau State.”

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, said the meeting was part of Governor Mutfwang’s regular assessment of the security situation and his efforts to keep the state safe for residents, investors and visitors.

He said, “His Excellency Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is the Chief Security Officer of the State, and once in a while, we review the security situation. We assess the security situation to take steps to improve on what we already have.”

The Commissioner of Police also referred to the recent attack in Mangu, describing it as unfortunate despite security preparations.

“The Mangu case was very unfortunate. We prepared and deployed, but somehow, such incidents still occurred. That is part of why His Excellency called this meeting so that such incidents must not happen again,” CP Faniyan said.

He disclosed that some suspects had already been arrested in connection with major attacks recorded in the state over the past month.

According to him, “We have some arrests the investigation is ongoing. We are not investigating in isolation. We are collaborating with all the other agencies up to the national level. We are still going after some suspects, and we are doing a lot of technological analysis.”

Faniyan assured Plateau residents that security agencies would continue working together to protect lives and property, prevent attacks and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

The meeting forms part of the Mutfwang administration’s wider efforts to strengthen peace and security in Plateau State and create conditions for investment, tourism, agriculture, commerce and other economic activities to thrive.
