Gombe tertiary institution workers begin 14-day warning strike

According to the communiqué, the government must demonstrate a clear commitment towards resolving the issues and begin implementing the outstanding demands before the expiration of the 14-day strike.

Despite declaring the industrial action, the joint union said it remained willing to engage in dialogue with the state government.

It expressed hope that the warning strike would encourage meaningful discussions and lead to an acceptable resolution of the dispute.

The unions appealed to the Gombe State Government to treat the matter as urgent, noting that prolonged industrial unrest could affect staff welfare and disrupt activities across the state’s tertiary institutions.

They stressed the need for prompt intervention in order to preserve industrial harmony and ensure the smooth operation of the affected schools.

The communiqué was signed by representatives of the various unions, including Salau Lanre and Umar Ibrahim Usman of COEASU, Umar Joshua of ASUP, Pisaghi A. Galmaka of SSUCOEN, Amos Y. Moda of SSANIP, as well as representatives of NASU.

Institutions affected by the strike include the College of Education, Billiri; Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga; College of Health Science and Technology, Kaltungo; and the College of Education and Legal Studies, Nafada.
