Glasgow 2026: Team Nigeria’s Asuquo wins silver in women’s weightlifting

Team Nigeria’s Ruth Nyong won a silver medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event at the ongoing  2026 Commonwealth Games, DAILY POST reports.

Nyong finished with a total of 168kg to make it to the podium.

India’s Mirabai Chanu Saikhom claimed the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 190kg, while Malaysia’s Irene Jane Henry settled for bronze with 167kg.

Jo-Beth Deireragea finished fourth with 161kg, while Tammy Wong placed fifth on 160kg. Nikole Roberts ended sixth with 154kg, Alex Mackay lifted 142kg for seventh, and Janet Atieno Oduor finished eighth with 133kg.

Team Nigeria has so far won seven medals at the ongoing games in Glasgow.

The West Africans have garnered three gold, and four silver medals.

They will hope to win more medals with more events lined up for tonight.
