Glasgow 2026: Team Nigeria claims seventh place, leads Africa

Team Nigeria finished seventh on the final medal standings at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, DAILY POST reports.

The West Africans competed in 10 sports, and won 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals

Team Nigeria also emerged as highest-ranked African nation at the Games.

Other Nigerian athletes who made the country proud are Ezekiel Nathaniel, who won a gold medal in the men’s 400-metre hurdles, Goodness Nwachukwu, smashing her own world record in the women’s F42 discus throw to win gold; Idris Riluwan, who won the gold medal in the men’s para-powerlifting event; and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who made history in the men’s shot put.

Australia finished top of the standings with 65 gold, 41 silver, and 52 bronze medals.

England came second with a medal haul of 26 gold, 41 silver, and 35 bronze, while Canada finished third with 18 gold, 20 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
